WhatsApp Business Solution Provider: What It Is and How to Choose
A WhatsApp Business Solution Provider is a company that connects businesses to the WhatsApp Business Platform and runs the software they use on it. Meta describes these companies as partners that deploy solutions on behalf of their clients. You need one if you want a ready-made inbox, automation or AI on WhatsApp, and you can skip one only if you build on the Cloud API yourself.
What a solution provider does
The WhatsApp Business Platform has no screen for your team. It is an API, so something has to send and receive the messages, store the conversations and show them to the people who reply. A solution provider supplies that layer.
In practice a provider helps you connect your phone number and business portfolio to the platform, usually through a short sign-up flow inside its own product. After that, its software is where you read chats, reply, send templates and run any automation.
Providers differ a lot in what sits on top. Some give you only the connection and an API. Others give you a shared team inbox, broadcasts, chatbots, or workflows that read and write to your other business systems.
Do you need one, or can you go direct?
Meta lets a business that builds only for itself use the Cloud API directly. That means your own developers write the code that receives messages, sends replies, handles templates and stores the history. It suits companies with an engineering team and a reason to build their own messaging software.
Most small and mid-sized businesses use a provider instead. They want their team answering customers this week, not a development project. The provider handles the technical connection, and the business works in a ready-made product.
How Meta bills you through a provider
Meta recognises two main ways a provider can work with you, and they change who pays Meta for your messages.
| Provider type | Who pays Meta for messages | What the provider bills |
|---|---|---|
| Tech Provider | You add your own payment method and Meta bills you directly for messages. | The provider bills its own services separately. |
| Solution Partner | The Solution Partner can invoice you directly, including for messages. | Its services and messages can come on one invoice. |
| No provider (direct Cloud API) | You pay Meta directly. | Nothing. You build and run the software yourself. |

Whichever route you take, Meta charges per delivered message, by category and by the recipient’s country. Messages your customers send you are free. Since 1 October 2026 each business phone number gets 1,000 free service replies a month, and the rest are charged per message. Rates vary by country and are set in Meta’s rate cards.
What to check before you choose a provider
- How message fees are billed. Ask whether Meta bills you directly or the provider invoices you, and whether the provider adds a margin on top of Meta’s fees.
- Whether you can keep the WhatsApp Business app. With coexistence, a business keeps its app number and also uses the API through a provider, with chats in sync. Not every provider offers it.
- What the software does after the connection. A connection and an inbox answer messages. Workflows that check an order, take a booking or send a payment link do the work behind them.
- Which other channels it covers. Customers also message on Instagram, Messenger and your website. One inbox for all of them saves your team from switching apps.
- Which systems it connects to. Check that it reaches your store, booking system, CRM or accounting software, and whether that needs a developer.
- How the provider prices its own service. Per contact, per conversation, per seat or per AI response. Convert to your own volumes before comparing.
What this means for your business
If you want WhatsApp to answer customers and complete tasks without hiring developers, a provider is the practical route. The real choice is which one, and the connection itself is the least important part of it.
Look first at how message fees reach you, because that is a cost you pay on every reply. Then look at what the software does with each conversation. A provider that only passes messages to an inbox leaves your team doing the lookups and updates by hand.
If your number already runs on the WhatsApp Business app and your team likes it, put coexistence on the list of must-haves. It lets you add the API without giving up the app.
How AeroChat handles it
AeroChat connects your WhatsApp number to the WhatsApp Business Platform through embedded signup, inside the AeroChat dashboard. You can keep using the WhatsApp Business app on your phone while the same number runs on the API through AeroChat. Meta’s WhatsApp fees are passed through at cost.
On top of the connection, AeroChat is chat infrastructure for customer service and sales workflows. You describe a workflow in your own words, and AeroChat sets it up against your own systems. See the full WhatsApp workflows library, how WhatsApp chats reach your CRM, and how the handover to your team works.
The same workflows connect to systems such as HubSpot and Google Sheets, and run on Instagram, Messenger, TikTok, Telegram, web chat and email from one inbox.
Questions
Is a WhatsApp Business Solution Provider the same as a BSP?
Yes. BSP is the short form people use for a WhatsApp Business Solution Provider. Meta’s own documents talk about Tech Providers and Solution Partners, which describe how the provider is set up and how billing works.
Can I use the WhatsApp Business API without a provider?
Yes, if you are building only for your own business. Meta lets you use the Cloud API directly. You then need developers to build and run the software that sends, receives and stores your messages.
Do I pay Meta and the provider separately?
It depends on the provider type. With a Tech Provider, you add your own payment method and Meta bills you for messages, while the provider bills its own services. A Solution Partner can invoice you directly.
Can I switch providers later?
Your number and business portfolio belong to you, so moving is possible. Plan it carefully, because your templates, automations and integrations live in the provider’s software and need setting up again in the new one.
