Telegram does not have one master switch that enables every AI feature. Native features appear in the part of the app where they are used: summaries on long channel posts, an AI editor in the message bar and AI tools inside the rich text editor.
You can also use third-party AI bots. These are separate services with their own owners, data practices and capabilities. A business that wants an AI customer-service account must create or connect a Telegram bot rather than simply turn on a setting.
The correct setup therefore depends on whether you want Telegram’s native AI, a public assistant or a bot for your business.
Which AI features are built into Telegram?
Telegram expanded its native and bot-based AI features during 2026.
| Feature | Where it appears | What it does | Service handling the AI |
|---|---|---|---|
| AI summaries | Long channel posts and Instant View pages | Condenses long content | Telegram’s Cocoon AI |
| AI text editor | Message bar | Fixes grammar, rewrites or translates drafted messages | Telegram’s Cocoon AI |
| Custom AI styles | AI text editor | Applies a reusable writing style or prompt | Telegram’s Cocoon AI |
| Rich text AI tools | Rich text editor | Helps generate long text, tables or formulas | Telegram’s Cocoon AI |
| AI sticker and emoji search | Sticker panel | Finds media using natural-language searches | Telegram’s Cocoon AI |
| Guest AI bots | Private chats and groups | Lets a supported third-party bot answer when mentioned | The selected bot provider |
| Chat Automation | Telegram settings | Lets a connected bot respond to selected chats | The connected bot provider |
This distinction affects privacy. Telegram says its own AI features run through Cocoon without sending the request to third parties. An AI bot or mini app is a third-party service, even when it is used inside Telegram. Telegram’s explanation of Cocoon and AI privacy

How do you use Telegram’s AI summaries?
Telegram introduced native AI summaries for long channel posts and Instant View pages in January 2026. There is no separate account connection or bot to install.
To use them:
- Update Telegram through the official app store for your device.
- Open a long post in a channel or an article using Telegram’s Instant View.
- Look for the summary shown with the post or at the top of the Instant View page.
- Read the original content before relying on a summary for an important decision.
Telegram’s announcement says Instant View pages receive an automatic summary at the top. The exact interface can vary as the apps are updated.
If no summary appears, the content may be too short, may not use Instant View, or the relevant app version may not yet display the feature in that context.
How do you use the Telegram AI text editor?
The native AI text editor works from the message bar. It can correct grammar, shorten or restyle text and translate a draft into another language.
Telegram’s current instructions are:
- Start writing a message.
- Type more than three lines.
- Tap the AI icon that appears above the Send arrow.
- Choose whether to fix, translate or change the style.
- Review the result before sending it.
Available styles can include practical options such as Formal and Short as well as deliberately playful styles. Translation and style can be combined.
Do not assume a rewritten message is factually correct simply because its grammar is polished. The editor changes language; it does not verify the underlying claim.
How do custom AI styles work?
Custom styles let a person or team create a reusable writing instruction for the AI editor.
Open the AI Text Editor, select the Style tab and tap Create. Define the style, test the generated examples and save it. Telegram also allows styles to be shared by link.
This can help a team use consistent terminology in announcements or promotions. It should not replace a final human check for prices, dates, policies or legal wording.
What is the AI-powered rich text editor?
Telegram’s rich text editor is designed for longer posts. It supports headings, lists, tables, quotations, code blocks and inline media. Its Cocoon-powered tools can also generate text, tables or formulas.
As of Telegram’s 14 July 2026 announcement, the rich text editor is limited to Telegram Premium users. This requirement may change, so check the current app before describing it in a team process.
This editor is more suitable for a channel article or substantial update than for a short chat reply.
How do you use an AI bot in a Telegram chat?
Telegram bots are small applications operated through the Bot Platform. Some connect to language models, while others perform fixed tasks such as moderation, search or notifications.
There are two common ways to use one.
Start a direct conversation with the bot
- Find the exact username published by the bot provider.
- Open the bot’s profile and verify that it belongs to the expected company or developer.
- Read its privacy policy and terms before sharing information.
- Tap Start or send
/start. - Send a low-risk test question before providing business or personal data.
Do not choose a bot solely because its username contains “GPT”, “AI” or the name of a well-known model. Those words do not prove who operates it.
Mention a guest bot in another chat
Supported guest bots can be mentioned by username inside a private or group chat without first being added as a member. Telegram says a guest bot receives the message in which it is tagged and replies to that message, rather than gaining access to the rest of the chat or its member list.
This limited Guest Mode is different from adding a bot to a group or connecting one through Chat Automation.
What is Chat Automation in Telegram?
Chat Automation lets a user connect a bot to their profile and permit it to respond to selected conversations. Telegram places this option under Settings > Chat Automation.
The important setup step is not merely connecting the bot. It is deciding which chats the bot may access. Telegram allows users to exclude contacts or restrict automation to new chats, for example.
Review these permissions carefully:
- Which existing or new chats can the bot access?
- Will it reply automatically or wait for a specific trigger?
- What information does the bot operator store?
- Can the automation be paused quickly?
- What happens when the bot is uncertain?
Chat Automation can save work, but it creates broader access than mentioning a guest bot in one message.
How do you create an AI bot for a business?
Creating a Telegram bot account and giving it useful business knowledge are separate steps.
1. Create the bot through BotFather
Open the official @BotFather account and send /newbot. Choose a display name and an available username. BotFather then issues an authentication token.
Telegram describes the token as the bot’s unique identifier. Treat it like a password. Anyone who obtains it can control the bot, so do not paste it into a public document, screenshot or unverified service.
2. Connect the token to a backend or business platform
BotFather registers the account, but it does not create the business logic. The token must be connected to code or a compatible platform that receives messages and sends replies.
Businesses that do not want to build and host their own system can connect the bot to a supported customer-service platform. The full Telegram AI chatbot setup guide covers this path without duplicating it here.
3. Add approved business information
Use current product information, policies, delivery details and frequently asked questions. Exclude drafts, outdated promotions and internal documents that customers should not see.
4. Define human handover
Decide which questions the bot may answer and which require a person. Refund disputes, account-access problems and unusual order issues usually need a clear escalation path.
5. Test before sharing the bot
Test routine questions, follow-ups, ambiguous wording, incorrect customer details and direct requests for a human. Also test what happens when the linked service or store data is unavailable.
How does AeroChat help businesses support customers on Telegram?
AeroChat is an AI agent platform that helps online businesses run customer service on autopilot.
For a Telegram-specific use case, AeroChat connects a merchant’s Telegram bot to an AI customer-service system. This has a direct operational benefit: routine product, delivery, return and order questions can be answered using approved business information, while the team focuses on conversations that need judgement.
Through the Telegram chatbot integration, conversations can be managed with other supported customer-service channels instead of creating another isolated inbox. The AI can use approved business information from the AeroChat knowledge base, while enquiries that need personal attention can move through human handover.
Best for: merchants using Telegram for customer conversations who want routine questions handled without operating another isolated inbox.
AeroChat is not required simply to use Telegram’s AI editor, summaries or public bots. It becomes relevant when Telegram is a customer-service channel and the business needs current business knowledge, team access and escalation.

Frequently asked questions
Do you need Telegram Premium for AI features?
Not every feature has the same requirement. Telegram stated that its rich text editor was Premium-only when announced in July 2026. Other features and availability can differ, so check the current official app rather than assuming one rule applies to every AI tool.
Why is the AI icon missing from the message bar?
For the AI text editor, Telegram says the icon appears after more than three lines have been typed. Also check that the official app is updated. Feature availability and interface details may differ between app versions and platforms.
Is a Telegram AI bot the same as Telegram’s Cocoon AI?
No. Cocoon powers Telegram’s native AI features. A third-party bot is operated by another provider and has its own data practices.
Can a Telegram bot start a conversation with a new user?
Telegram’s Bot Platform says a bot cannot initiate the first conversation. The user must message it, open it through a link or add it to an appropriate chat. After that interaction, the bot may be able to send messages within Telegram’s rules and the user can block it.
Enabling AI in Telegram opens up a set of assistant and automation features that differ from what the base app offers. For the safety questions that come up before enabling these features, whether Telegram AI bots are safe is the right starting point. For users comparing AI assistance across platforms, the personal assistant replacement question covers the capability debate, and Meta AI in WhatsApp covers the parallel setup on the most widely used messaging platform.
