Connect Toast to WhatsApp and AI Chat
Guests message to ask what is on the menu, whether a dish is sold out today, or where their takeaway order is. The answers are already in Toast. AeroChat reads your menu, stock and orders from Toast and replies in the chat, so what guests are told matches what the kitchen is selling right now.
This page covers what you can automate, how the connection works and what stays in Toast. Each use case links to a page with a description you can paste into AeroChat.
What you can do with Toast and AeroChat
- Answer menu and sold-out questions. Read items, prices, modifiers and today’s stock from Toast and reply in the chat.
- Answer “where is my order?” Look up the order in Toast and tell the guest its status and promised time.
- Answer dietary questions from the menu. Combine the Toast menu with your allergen notes in the knowledge base.
- Answer opening hours and location questions. Reply from your restaurant details and knowledge base, per location.
How the connection works
AeroChat connects through Toast’s standard API access (Toast standard API access documentation). Standard API access is read-only. AeroChat reads menus, stock, orders and restaurant details. It does not create or change orders, menus or anything else in Toast.
To connect, create standard API credentials (a client ID and secret) in Toast Web, and choose which locations they cover. Toast offers standard API access on its RMS Essentials plan and above. You describe the workflow in plain English, AeroChat builds it and asks for the credentials by name. You enter them in the AeroChat dashboard. They never pass through the conversation.
Workflows to copy

When a guest asks whether we have a dish today, check the menu and stock in Toast for that location. If the item is on the menu and not out of stock, say yes and give the price from Toast. If it is out of stock, say so and suggest one or two similar items that are available. Never quote a price that is not in Toast.
Who uses it
Restaurants, cafes and quick-service brands that run their POS and online ordering on Toast. See the restaurant recipes for menu and dietary questions and order status and delivery.
What stays in Toast
Everything. Toast stays the record of your menu, prices, stock, orders and payments, and AeroChat only reads from it. Menu changes and 86’d items are made in Toast as usual, and the chat picks them up. AeroChat handles the conversation.
Questions
Does AeroChat work with Toast?
Yes. It connects through Toast’s standard API access, using a client ID and secret you create in Toast Web.
Can guests place an order through WhatsApp into Toast?
Not through this connection. Standard API access is read-only, so AeroChat answers questions from Toast but does not create orders in it. Guests can still order through your Toast online ordering link, which AeroChat can send in the chat.
Do I need a developer?
No. You describe the workflow in plain English and AeroChat builds it. You create the credentials in Toast Web and paste them into the dashboard.
Which plan do I need?
Workflows via Skills are on every AeroChat plan. Choose by message volume: a busy restaurant answering many menu questions may need Growth or Advanced. On the Toast side, standard API access needs RMS Essentials or higher.
Using a different system? If it has a public API, it connects to AeroChat the same way: describe what you want, paste in its key, and it runs.
