Answer Job Status Questions on WhatsApp with ServiceM8

By Alva Chew 3 min read Updated October 25, 2026

This recipe answers the most common question a home service business gets after a booking: when is the technician coming? AeroChat reads the job from ServiceM8 and replies in the same chat. Part of the ServiceM8 integration.

What happens today

On a busy morning the office phone and WhatsApp fill with the same question from different customers. Someone opens ServiceM8, finds the job, checks where the technician is, and replies one by one. The technician gets calls on the road asking the same thing.

The flow that works

  1. The customer asks about their appointment.
  2. AeroChat finds their job in ServiceM8 by the phone number they are messaging from.
  3. It reads the scheduled date, time window and job status, and replies.
  4. If the customer wants to change the time or something looks wrong, it hands over to the office.

The recipe

Copy this into AeroChat

When a customer asks when the technician is coming or about the status of their job, find their job in ServiceM8 by phone number. If there is more than one open job, ask which address. Tell them the scheduled date and time window, and the job status in plain words: scheduled, in progress or completed. If the job is completed, tell them the invoice will follow by email. If you cannot find a job, ask for the address and search again. If you still cannot find it, or they want to change the time, or they are unhappy with a delay, hand the conversation to a person. Never promise an exact arrival time.

What to connect

  • ServiceM8. The same API key as the booking recipe. Create it in your ServiceM8 account settings and enter it in the AeroChat dashboard when asked.
  • Customer phone numbers. Keep a mobile number on each client in ServiceM8 so AeroChat can match the chat to the job.

Using a different system? If it has a public API, it connects to AeroChat the same way: describe what you want, paste in its key, and it runs.

Can’t find your tool? Message us in the chat on this page and we’ll tell you how it connects.

What you still decide

  • How much detail to share, for example the window only or the technician’s name too.
  • When a delay is passed to a person.
  • Whether customers can reschedule in chat or only through the office.

The result to expect

Status questions get an answer in seconds, at any hour, from the same record your team uses. Fewer calls reach the technicians on the road. Track how many status questions the office handles by hand in a week before and after.
