Fashion Product Recommendations in Instagram and WhatsApp Chat

By Alva Chew 4 min read Updated October 24, 2026

This recipe answers shoppers who know the occasion but not the item: “something for a wedding dinner”, “office wear for petite”, “matching holiday outfits for the family below US$200”. It filters your Shopify catalogue by tags, price and stock, suggests up to three items with a reason for each, and sends the links. Part of the fashion store workflows.

What happens today

A shopper messages “any dress for my friend’s wedding, garden, not too formal, below US$60?”. The person who knows the range best is at the warehouse. Whoever is on the inbox sends the whole new-arrivals link, or three photos, one of which sold out yesterday. The shopper scrolls, gets tired and leaves.

A good recommendation needs the catalogue, the stock and a short reason. All three are in your store already.

The flow that works

  1. The shopper describes what they need. AeroChat asks for the occasion, budget, size and style preference, only for what is missing.
  2. It filters your products by the tags you use, such as occasion, style, fit and colour, and by price.
  3. It drops anything not in stock in the shopper’s size.
  4. It suggests up to three items, each with a one-line reason and a link.
  5. If the shopper likes one, it suggests one item you have tagged to pair with it, and answers size questions using the size and fit recipe.

When a shopper asks what to buy for an occasion or a style, follow these steps.

  1. Find out the occasion, their budget, their usual size and any style or colour preference. Ask only for what they have not said, one or two questions at a time.
  2. Search our products using the tags on each product, for example occasion (work, wedding, festive, casual), style, fit and colour, and keep only items within their budget.
  3. Check stock and keep only items available in their size.
  4. Suggest up to three items. For each, give the name, price and one line on why it fits what they asked, using only the product description and tags. Send the product link.
  5. If they like one, suggest one item tagged “pairs with” for that product, if there is one.
  6. If nothing matches, say so and suggest the closest option, for example the same style just over budget, or a different colour in their size.

Only recommend products in our catalogue. Never describe a product in a way its description does not support. During festive periods, mention our festive delivery cut-off date from the knowledge base. Reply in the customer’s language.

Change the tag names to the ones your store uses before you paste it.

What to connect

  • Shopify. Built in. The AeroChat app syncs products, prices, tags, variants and stock, and the recommendations read from these.
  • Product tags. Tag each product by occasion, style and fit, and add “pairs with” tags or a product field for items that go together. This is the work that makes recommendations good. It also improves your site filters.
  • Your channels. Instagram direct messages and comments, WhatsApp and web chat.
  • Your knowledge base. Festive delivery cut-offs, and a short note on your range, such as which collections suit petite shoppers.

Using a different system? If it has a public API, it connects to AeroChat the same way: describe what you want, paste in its key, and it runs.

What you still decide

  • Your tags, and which products carry them.
  • How many items to suggest, and whether to lead with new arrivals or best sellers.
  • Whether to offer a discount code, and its limit. AeroChat never offers one you have not set.

The result to expect

Shoppers who ask “what should I get” get a short list they can buy from, in stock in their size, while they are still looking at your post. Your team stops sending catalogue links back and forth.

Measure it with your own numbers: orders from conversations that started with a recommendation question, for a month before and after. The questions that end with “nothing matches” also show you gaps in your range.

Next: stock and restock questions.

Ask for an outfit

Install the app, paste the recipe and ask for a wedding dinner outfit under your average price. Check the three items it picks against what your best stylist would choose.
